In het kort zou een manier zijn om het nieuwe activabestand naar de juiste locatie te kopiëren, terwijl u een kopie van het originele databasebestand bewaart, u kunt dan de updates toepassen om de gebruikersgegevens effectief te bewaren in de nieuw gekopieerde database. MAAR alleen als de App wordt geüpgraded voor die specifieke wijziging en als de database bestaat.
Als de database niet bestaat, moet de standaardkopie van het activabestand worden gemaakt.
Hier is een voorbeeld van hoe dit kan worden gedaan.
Dit voorbeeld is vrij sterk afhankelijk van routines die beheer en enige ondervraging van het bestand in de activamap en/of het databasebestand zelf mogelijk maken.
Een klasse namelijk DBAssetHandler.java voorziet in het bovenstaande (evenals een mogelijkheid om de user_version AKA de databaseversie te extraheren bij gebruik van de SQLiteOpenHelper).

Merk op dat de klasse ook is getest op, en dus geschikt is voor, Android Pie, en dus Write-Ahead logging (WAL de standaard in Pie) en de journaalmodus, de vorige standaard.

De activabestanden, er zijn er twee:-
- pev1.db - de originele reeds bestaande database zoals hierboven beschreven
- pev1mod.db - de gewijzigde (extra kolom, UNIEKE beperking en de extra rij).
De Database Helper (een subklasse van SQLOpenHelper) namelijk PEV2DBHelper.java , Opgemerkt moet worden dat de databaseversie (DBVERSION ) wordt gebruikt om te controleren en is als zodanig verschillend van de APK-versie (die vaker kan veranderen dan de DB)
- Er zijn problemen gevonden bij het gebruik van de onUpgrade methode, daarom een alternatieve benadering, die van het verkrijgen van de user_version . van de databases uit het bestand in plaats van via een SQLiteDatabase.

- Merk op dat er weinig bloat is in de manier van toevoegen, verwijderen en extraheren van rijen. Het is echter een beetje te ingewikkeld omdat het het schakelen tussen versies afhandelt om de demonstratie te vergemakkelijken.
Ten slotte is een voorbeeldactiviteit die gebruikmaakt van PEV2DBHelper, waarbij het schema en de rijen van de tabel naar het logboek worden geschreven.
